Why does the figure look wider here than in the sky view above?

Both draw the same data, but with different conventions. The sky view uses the same scale on both axes, so it shows the analemma with its true proportions, as a camera would capture it: about 47° tall and only a few degrees wide. This chart, like most technical analemma diagrams, stretches each axis independently to fill the plot, expanding the narrow azimuth range several times so its day-to-day variation can actually be read.
