How these times are calculated

The sun’s position is calculated for the centre of the city, in local time (summer time included). Fajr and Isha depend on how far the sun is below the horizon, at the angles of the method shown. The Moonsighting Committee method compares the 18° time with its seasonal limits all year, takes the later Fajr and the earlier Isha (by red twilight) and, above 55° latitude, uses one seventh of the night. Dhuhr is just after the sun passes its highest point, Asr is set by the length of shadows and Maghrib is at sunset. When the sun does not go far enough below the horizon in summer, a high-latitude rule sets Fajr and Isha. Times are rounded to the nearest minute.

Calculated times, not a mosque’s timetable: for congregational prayer (jama‘ah), and when in doubt, follow your mosque or imam. Methodology · Why prayer times differ

Questions about prayer times in London

How late can Isha be prayed in London?

Isha begins at 17:47. The middle of the night, halfway between sunset and tomorrow’s Fajr, is at 22:56. Scholars differ on how late Isha may be prayed: some hold that its time ends at the middle of the night, others that it lasts until Fajr, with delay past the middle of the night disliked. Follow your mosque or imam.

What time is Jumu‘ah in London this Friday?

Jumu‘ah takes the place of Dhuhr on Fridays for those who attend it. Most schools hold that its time is Dhuhr’s, which begins at 11:49 on Friday 30 October; Hanbali scholars also allow it somewhat earlier. Each mosque sets its own times for the sermon (khutbah) and the prayer; check with your mosque.

How do prayer times change through the year in London?

Over the next twelve months in London, Fajr ranges from 02:43 (20 June) to 06:25 (27 December), Maghrib from 15:54 (10 December) to 21:25 (21 June) and Isha from 17:07 (3 December) to 22:42 (22 June), by the clock, summer time included.

What happens to Fajr and Isha in summer in London?

From about 23 May to 20 July the sun does not go 18° below the horizon in London, so dawn and nightfall at that angle never happen. The Moonsighting Committee method, which this page uses, then follows its seasonal limits, which it applies all year. This is when timetables differ the most between mosques.

When does Ramadan 2027 begin in London?

Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin on Monday 8 February, the first day of fasting, with the last fast on Monday 8 March; the start depends on the sighting of the moon and may differ by a day, so follow your mosque’s announcement. On the first day in London, suhoor ends at 05:50 (Fajr, rounded down) and the fast is broken at 17:06 (Maghrib, rounded up), so that neither is shown on the wrong side of the minute.

Which direction is the Qibla in London?

From London the Qibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca, is 119° from true north, towards the east-southeast, along the shortest route over the globe (4,790 km).
